Fresh Off the Line: Diorama Students Explore the Making of Parle Products in Indore
At Diorama Eduversity, we believe classrooms only tell half the story. The other half is written on the factory floor, and that is exactly where our management students headed for this visit, stepping into one of Parle's manufacturing units in Indore to see how one of India's most trusted food brands actually comes to life.

A Walk Through Decades of Legacy
Before the machines even started rolling, students got a quick tour through the history of Parle itself. They learned how the brand grew from a small confectionery business into a household name that has been feeding generations of Indians, and how that legacy still shapes the way the company runs its operations today. Understanding this backstory gave students context for everything they saw next. A brand does not become iconic by accident, it takes decades of consistency, discipline, and trust.
Inside the Production Line
The highlight of the visit was watching the full production line in motion. Students were taken step by step through how raw ingredients are transformed into the finished, packaged products that land on store shelves across the country.
What Students Observed:
Mixing and Processing: How raw materials are measured, blended, and processed under strict, standardized conditions to keep every batch consistent.
Baking and Shaping: The high speed machinery that shapes, bakes, and cools the product before it ever reaches the packaging stage.
Automated Packing Lines: How products are counted, sealed, and packed with minimal manual handling, keeping the process fast and hygienic.
Batch Testing: Every single batch goes through quality checks before it is cleared for packaging, covering taste, texture, weight, and safety parameters.
Cold Storage and Handling: Where required, how temperature controlled zones keep raw materials and finished goods in the right condition until they move out.
Seeing an entire product go from raw ingredient to shelf ready pack in one continuous flow was, for many students, the first time they truly understood what operations management looks like outside of a textbook.
Quality First, Every Single Time
One of the biggest takeaways for students was just how seriously Parle treats quality control. It is not a one time check at the end of the line. Every batch is tested independently, and if even one parameter falls outside the acceptable range, that batch does not move forward. Students got to see this process firsthand, from sample collection to lab testing, and understood how a single production line supports thousands of quality checks every single day.
Where the Ingredients Come From
Students were also introduced to the sourcing side of the business. They learned how Parle works with a wide network of suppliers to bring in raw materials, and how sourcing decisions are influenced by factors like ingredient quality, cost, consistency, and reliability of supply. This gave students a practical look at how procurement teams balance quality with efficiency at a scale most people never think about.
The Journey After Production: Logistics and Distribution
Making the product is only half the job. Getting it into the hands of millions of customers across the country is the other half, and this is where logistics comes in. Students were walked through how finished goods move from the factory to warehouses, and eventually to retailers and consumers across different regions. They learned about the planning that goes into inventory management, transportation, and timing, all working together to make sure products reach the market fresh and on schedule.
"Watching how one biscuit or snack goes from raw material to a sealed pack ready for delivery, and realizing how many teams and checks are involved at every stage, completely changed how I look at products on a store shelf," shared one student after the visit.
Why This Visit Mattered
This industrial visit connected several core management concepts students study in the classroom, including:
✅ Operations and production planning
✅ Quality assurance and process control
✅ Procurement and supply chain coordination
✅ Logistics and distribution management
✅ Brand legacy and consumer trust
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Diorama Eduversity, visits like this one are a core part of how we prepare students for the real world of business. Reading about a production line in a textbook is one thing, standing beside it and watching it work is another. This visit gave students a real understanding of how a well run manufacturing operation functions from the ground up, and how every department, from procurement to quality to logistics, has to work in sync to deliver a product people trust.
Building Industry Ready Managers
Through our ongoing Diorama Industry Programme, we continue to take students beyond the classroom and into the operations of some of the country's leading companies. Visits like this one to the Parle factory in Indore are exactly the kind of hands on exposure that turns theoretical knowledge into practical understanding, preparing our students for careers in operations, supply chain, and manufacturing management.
